UX/UI Design for Sixt

Client: Sixt Car Rentals
Project: Sixt Fleet Check
Role: UX/UI Designer
Platforms: Mobile App (iOS & Android), Desktop App

Sixt Car Rentals needed a fleet tracking solution to prevent vehicle location mismatches across its U.S. rental network. I designed the Sixt Fleet Check mobile and desktop apps to provide a quick, seamless vehicle check-in system using VIN scanning technology. Inspired by Grammarly’s early desktop app for a clean, intuitive UI, and leveraging my experience with Dealerslink’s Fastbook VIN scanner, I created an efficient, user-friendly interface that allows employees to scan a vehicle’s VIN upon arrival and alerts managers if a car is in the wrong location. The result? Faster check-ins, improved accuracy, and real-time fleet visibility.

Challenge

The app needed to:

  • Enable quick, seamless vehicle check-ins using VIN scanning via a smartphone.

  • Alert managers if a vehicle is not at the expected location.

  • Be simple, fast, and intuitive, requiring minimal user training.

  • Maintain Sixt’s branding and visual identity.Upload a screenshot into this mockup and make it stand out without fancy design software.

My Role

The app needed to:

  • Designed initial concepts and wireframes for both mobile and desktop apps.

  • Created a clean, intuitive interface for efficient VIN scanning and vehicle tracking.

  • Designed the desktop dashboard for monitoring fleet locations and mismatch alerts.

  • Ensured a seamless user experience inspired by Grammarly’s early desktop app.

  • Developed a mobile app UX based on the Dealerslink

  • Fastbook VIN scanner app, ensuring a familiar experience while optimizing for fleet check-in efficiency.

UX/UI Design Process

  1. Research & Inspiration
    • Analyzed Grammarly’s early desktop app UI for a simple, streamlined interface.
    • Used existing VIN scanner technology from Dealerslink’s Fastbook app as a baseline for mobile interactions.

  2. Wireframing & Prototyping
    • Developed low-fidelity wireframes for layout and user flow.
•Created high-fidelity prototypes for both mobile and desktop versions.
    • Ensured a consistent experience across devices.

  3. User-Centered Design Approach
    • Large, clear icons and simple prompts for fast scanning and check-ins.
    • Color-coded alerts and notifications to help managers identify misplaced vehicles quickly.
    • Minimal steps to complete a scan, ensuring speed and ease of use for employees.

  4. Branding & Visual Design
    • Implemented Sixt’s brand colors and typography to ensure consistency.
    • Used a modern, sleek design with a focus on usability and clarity.
